2009-2010 pre-season schedule

Drumline Camp and Leadership retreat dates - TBA
September 2 - 4: evening rehearsals for V-A Band, 6:30-9:30PM
September 5th: Huskies season opening vs. LSU
September 7: rookie auditions - this is also Labor Day
September 8th-11th: pre-school drills
September 12th: Band Day - first game for the 2009 HMB
September 13th: Rehearsal in preparation for USC, 1-6PM
September 14th: evening rehearsal, 6-9PM
September 16th: evening rehearsal, 6-9PM
September 18th: all day rehearsal - times TBA
September 19th: Huskies vs. U$C

No rehearsals until normal rehearsal schedule begins Tuesday night, Sept. 29th (6-8PM) with classes starting on the 30th.

This page of the HMB's website has all the information you'll need, including a link to register for auditions. Remember, the auditions are held on September 7th beginning at 8 AM.

Now it's the off-season...

...and somehow still no one has time for homework, despite the 10 hours/week of band practice being a thing of the past. Winter quarter sucks.

The Huskies had the worst record ever (literally) this year, but the Husky Marching Band was still the best in the Pac-10 and we cheered the team on until the very end. (And all the football-turned-band fans cheered us on, too...we <3 them so. Band fans FTW.)

Rookie nicknames were lovingly bestowed en route to the Apple Cup (something we're still trying to forget). Check the members page and scroll nearly to the bottom to see.

The band banquet was recently, and the saxes brought home two section awards, woooooo yeah! I'll remember what they were and update the awards page soon-ish...I promise!

Everyone is super excited for Obama of course, but we here at Washington are also pumped for FOOTBALL. Sark and Holt? It's gonna be good...

And finally, on a personal note, should my cousin John happen to have found this blog and read this far--HI JOHN!! : )

Close-to-the-end-of-season update

Congratulations to the rookies on making it this far...the end is near!

Lots of important things are happening soon. The 101st Apple Cup is on Saturday, the 22nd of November, and (more importantly) the rookies will be receiving their nicknames on the bus ride to get there. Said nicknames will be added to the members page upon our return. GO DAWGS, BEAT THE COUGARS (please)!!!

A current section picture will be added soon, when a file of it is procured. Until then, enjoy looking at the 2006 saxes in all their glory.

The links page has been updated to include links to all the Pac-10 marching bands, all 11 Big-10 bands, and other bands' sax section websites.

2008 Auditions

It's already September, and the 2008 marching season is almost upon us! Good luck to all prospective saxes this Friday at auditions! If you would like to audition and haven't signed up, it's not too late! Give the band office a call at (206) 543-7383, or email band@u.washington.edu for more information. If you have any questions about the Husky Saxes, you can always give us an email, and we'll be happy to answer.

Lazer Tag!

So, three weeks ago (2/2) most of the saxes (and some obnoxious trumpets had to come too...) went down to the Federal Way area for a lazer-tag lock-in at Lazerquest. Most of us got there around 11pm, and they divided us up into two groups, blue and green. I was lucky enough to be in the first group, blue. We got to choose nicknames, but nothing offensive was allowed. They wouldn't even allow Jihad! Luckily, Gizmo they were fine with, and other people found ways around the censoring (FStick).

When we were finally called up, we went in this "briefing room" that was lit with the same lighting as in the arena. It was then that most of us discovered that wearing dark clothing didn't really matter, as lint seemed to show up well. Anyone who wore their trumpet jersey was lit up like a lightbulb though (Gavin). The arena was really nice, three double-floor fort like structures, with a maze on the ground as well as underneath the forts. The first round was a free-for-all, which was fun. People were running about shooting like mad, unfortunately no pictures, a camera wouldn't have worked in the arena anyways. Later on we moved on to team games, team survival games (only 15 lives, so you had to be careful), and "base attack" games (which sucked, in my opinion). For the team attacks, we divided into two groups of saxes and a group of trumpets. The trumpets lost to both sax groups (obviously).

Anyways, by the next morning, we were all lazer-tagged out (though going a few more rounds would've been fun), and we packed up our remaining food, took a few pictures, and went back to Seattle. Hopefully we do this again next year, if not sooner.

It's official! The 2007-2008 HMB season has arrived! We have already begun conditioning the new rookies and starting tomorrow, we will be reconditioning returning vets. Take a look at the "meet the saxes" section to get a peek at our new rookies!

It's getting to be that time of the year for Husky Marching Band auditions. With only a few months til September 7th, now would be a great time for prospective Husky Saxes to start gearing up for their audition(s). It's time once again to gear up for the Tequila Bowl, the annual flag football game between the Low Brass and Percussion and the High Brass and Woodwinds. Practices for team Purple (last year's champions) are usually held on Sundays, with the exception of today's practice on Monday. To see highlights of last year's Tequila Bowl, click here.

We were recently visited by a musical Middle School group from Japan, Musica Grato (left). Marching season is just about over and we only have a few more rehearsals left. The next big event will be the Band Banquet (Jan. 19th).

Sorry for the massive gap in updates. Taking over as webmaster, I hope to have the site completely updated within the next few months. Rookie auditions are coming up and pre-school drills are just weeks away!

School's out! Page has a new look! Keep an eye out for the saxes at gigs around town. Potential 2004 rookies, make sure to get your audition stuff. If you haven't gotten it, go to http://www.huskymarchingband.com/. Also, summer is a great time to ditch the old student mouthpiece and upgrade to a good one. Check some out at http://www.wwbw.com/. Poulsbo's annual VIKING FEST is happening on the weekend of may 15th. Keep an eye out for the husky saxes at the parade. In the next few days, there should be pictures from this past year posted as well.

Pictures from the 2003 football season have been posted under the picture section. They are, by popular demand, in a slideshow format.
Last February, the High brass and woodwinds beat the low brass and percussion in the Annual Tequila Bowl 21 to 0. A highlight video can be found here.
